For me, this meetup focused on making a brand: who is Rivka, what do I do, and why I do it better. Those are the words of the presenter, Ms. Julie Poulos, Vice-President of redcaffeine.com
Step one: Set Goals.
As bloggers, our goals are typically two-fold.
Step two: Once you have personal goals for your blog, examine what your competition is doing.
Remember, this presentation was about becoming a BRAND and then selling it. You need to know if your blog is exactly the same as 500 others. Don’t be afraid. I assure you that it is not. You are special and unique and your product, your voice, is also special and unique. Looking at the other blogs will show you where and how you are different. “Who you are, what you do, why you do it better” – Julie Poulos, people. I expect that this exercise will build your self-confidence.
Step three: Compare your web presence to your competitors.
How do the sites look? Do they look dated or boring? For WordPress users, what is in your sidebar? How many clicks to get to content? Do you have downloadable content? Do you have unique tools? Do you have a social presence?
Step four: Determine your competitive advantage. Define your valued attributes and differentiators. (college words)
Questions: How do I describe my company? What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of the company? Who is my audience?
Truthfully, there was a great deal more information in the presentation, especially about unifying my company message across social media platforms and internally. But I needed to determine what my company message is!
Here are some of the ways that I plan to use this information from redcaffeine.com:
Show me the money! (okay, too 1980’s…) umm… please let me work in my field because I am tired of pasta and canned fish? I’m sure you get the idea. Well, I hope these lessons from a marketing pro will spark your coffee-deprived brains in some way and gold nuggets will shoot forth from your…mouth. Be well, fellow bloggers, and best of luck to you!
