37 WordPress users met to discuss ways to make $$$$$ on WordPress. The presenter was Mr. Andrew Wikel, who actually works for Automattic (i.e. WordPress)! How exciting is that?! He showed us WooCommerce’s new Store theme – which is completely FREE to use. Let me just say, it was fucking amazing! I started migrating (moving) my blog to WordPress.org as soon as his presentation was over.
WordPress.org is a separate entity from WordPress.com
To use WordPress.org I have to pay roughly $12 a month to a hosting company. I chose DreamHost, but they are all priced about the same.
While WordPress.com allows me to blog and to change the appearance of my site by using themes and widgets, WordPress.org is like a space-time wormhole that can teleport me to a zillion parallel universes… and in several of those universes, I am rich and famous! LOL. Seriously, it could happen. By definition, bloggers are egomaniacs operating under GNE, Gold Nugget Economics (which I learned about at this blog here: shoutsfromtheabyss)
Gold Nugget Economics means that I think everything that I write is a Gold Nugget and everything else is poop!
This is not to say that other blogs are poop. Heavens no! It just means that I shouldn’t edit my own writing – because I think every single word is brilliant with a capital B. My idea of quote “Editing” involves simply changing the order of the paragraphs. I rarely delete or alter even one word of my first drafts (because they are perfection, of course.) Again, bloggers are egoists by definition. Gold Nugget Economics.
Back to WooCommerce, the free Store parent theme, and the zillion parallel universes…
The move (Migration) from a free blog at WordPress.com to a new universe at WordPress.org was (and is) stupefyingly complicated… for me. I add “for me” because you all don’t know this, but I am a genius – by virtue of the exceptional memory that I inherited from my mommy’s DNA. I didn’t do anything to earn it. It just is. Genius or not, I have been losing my hair and my sleep over the WP migration. It is not simple (unless you have fewer than 20 posts). Okay, I digressed from writing about WooCommerce again. The point is that I want the infinite and expanding universe(s) that Mr. Andrew Wikel showed to us. I want it all. I want a brand. I want a platform. I want social media followers. I want to sell merchandise. I want a logo. I want fame and fortune as a writer, and WooCommerce and WordPress.org are a way to get it to me. Beam me up, Scotty. [Or The Doctor is in, if you prefer.
