“No Longer Silenced Movement” offers this 21-day challenge to healing and moving beyond the damages of child abuse. I think it is important to mention that whether a horribly abusive act happened just once or was a daily pattern, the abuse still causes damage which has to be dealt with. Pretending nothing happened is not healthy, nor is focusing too much to the exclusion of everything else. There has to be peace.
From www.childhelp.org :
What is child abuse?
Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, and emotional abuse.
Day One – Write about a bond you were able to form that came from being a survivor of child abuse.
Day Two- What is a positive trait you developed from being a survivor of child abuse.
My answer: Other survivors know that only another survivor can truly understand what they have been through, therefore, it is easy to bond with other survivors of child abuse because we have authenticity in our sharing.
A positive trait I developed from being a survivor is Perspective. I came to realize that every living person has had some kind of trauma. My trauma does not make me special, nor does it make me a freak. Everybody has trauma.
