The first few months after my narcissist lover threw me away like so much rotten meat, I considered it a major victory if I could get myself into the bathtub, bathe, and put on fresh pajamas for the day. It took a lot of energy for me to bathe myself. I was so broken.
Six months later, I am happy to report that I feel much better. I have bad days. I get cranky, but my attitude and my level of self-care is much higher.
Here are some remedies that I used to help myself:
#1. Bach’s Rescue Remedy. This is a mixture of plants in a tincture of alcohol. I place a few drops in a glass of water and drink it. It reduces anxiety. If I am really freaking out, I place the drops directly under my tongue. Bach’s Rescue Remedy has no side effects, and is also good for cats and dogs who are anxious about a trip to the vet. It can be found at most vitamin shops and is inexpensive.
#2. Tonic water with Quinine. I find that quinine strengthens my immune system and keeps me from catching colds and flu.
#3. Lavender oil. Lavender is calming. I spray it on my pillows. I rub it on my hands. I put it inside my nostrils so that I smell it continuously. I put it in my bathwater. Just treat yourself to a good quality oil from a health food store.
#4. Camomile Tea. I drink several cups a day to help me relax. This is an ancient remedy. After I drink the tea, I place the wet teabag on my eyes. It feels great.
#5. Disney movies. I love to relax with G-rated movies that have a happy ending. I am a big fan of musicals, too.
Calming my mind and healing from abuse at the hands of a narcissist takes EFFORT.
I work at it. I remind myself to take care of myself and to create healthy habits. I also sleep 9 hours a night, not 15 and not 6. I need nine to be at my best.
I hope these suggestions help you, too.
